Fixing timber to concrete and masonry
Where a timber structure meets its foundation, the connection is only as strong as its anchor. Chemical resin anchors bond threaded rod or studs into drilled holes using injectable resin, delivering high pull-out capacity in concrete, brick and hollow masonry — ideal for hold-downs, base plates and heavily loaded brackets. Mechanical expansion anchors offer a faster, resin-free fix for lighter loads and immediate loading where curing time isn't available.

Choosing chemical vs mechanical
Chemical anchors generally outperform mechanical ones in cracked concrete, close-to-edge fixings and high-load connections, and they suit the demanding tie-down requirements of mass timber buildings. Mechanical anchors win on speed and simplicity for lower-load applications. Both should be selected against the substrate, load and environment — and for structural connections, designed to ETA-approved performance data.
