INSULA65 / THERMO65 · Washer to fasten insulation to timber
This is a 65 mm propylene washer that turns an ordinary timber screw into an insulation fixing.
A screw head on its own is far too small to hold an insulation board. Drive one straight through and it pulls through the board instead of holding it. The washer gives the screw a wide face to bear on, and it does two other things while it is there.
What it does
- The wide face stops the screw head pulling through the board
- A moulded cover caps the recess over the screw head, so there is no open channel left through the insulation
- The ribbed face gives plaster something to key into, if the board is being rendered
The screw is a separate purchase
The washer takes Ø6 to Ø8 timber screws. Use SNK countersunk timber screws, or SNK EVO if you need the C4 coating for a more exposed position. Both diameters are stocked in a full range of lengths, which matters here because the length is the thing people get wrong.
Before you fix
- The washer does nothing on its own. It needs a screw, and the screw is bought separately
- Timber substrate only. For concrete or brickwork use ISULFIX instead
- Screw length is your insulation thickness plus enough penetration into the timber behind. Getting this wrong is the common error, so work it out before you order
- Ø6 to Ø8 screws only
