Why membranes matter in timber buildings
Timber and mass timber structures rely on a well-designed membrane layer to manage moisture, air movement and heat. Get it wrong and you risk interstitial condensation, rot and heat loss; get it right and the building stays airtight, warm and durable for decades. Airtightness membranes (such as the CLIMA range) sit on the warm side of insulation to control vapour and stop warm, moist air leaking into the structure, while breather membranes and underlays (such as the CLARA range) sit on the cold side to shed water yet let the structure dry outward.

Airtight, low-energy and Passive House builds
Achieving low air-permeability results — and Passive House certification — depends as much on correct membrane detailing and taping as on the membranes themselves. Continuity at junctions, penetrations and laps is where airtightness is won or lost. The Rothoblaas system pairs membranes with matched tapes and sealants so the whole envelope works together, helping projects meet Part L and ambitious low-energy targets.
